What To Expect At Your First Private Pilates Session
Please arrive a few minutes early to fill out our paper questionnaire & waiver. You’ll start your first session with a brief conversation with your instructor about your body, current physical health and exercise practices, goals and an introduction to the studio.
Expect to be introduced to foundational Pilates movement usually using 1-2 apparatus. Your instructor will evaluate your current needs, begin to sculpt your customized Pilates practice and leave you with information about the work we did and what to expect for the next session(s).
Within your first few sessions you should be clear about the goals of your current practice and a possible trajectory for this work at Union and at home, often with homework guidelines.
Meet Your Instructors
At Union Pilates, our instructors have each completed a minimum of 700 apprenticeship hours and together bring more than 38 years of teaching experience. We welcome every body, background, and experience level.

FAQs
-
Consistency is the most important part of building a Pilates practice, which can mean something different for each client. We find coming 2-3 sessions a week at the beginning of your time at Union can boost the effectiveness of the foundational work in your body. Our clients are often in the studio 2-3 times a week, often mixing private sessions and group classes when appropriate for their level and body’s needs. If you need help building your weekly practice please get in touch info@unionpilates.com, we’re happy to assist.
-
Private sessions are one-on-one and create a space for you and your instructor to build a custom workout for your needs and level. Group classes are for clients who already have experience with and understanding of classical Pilates, they push clients to work at their own pace alongside 3-6 other clients.
-
We work with clients recovering from injuries, surgeries, back pain, graduating from PT, postpartum, etc. Most injuries need one-on-one attention, so we require private sessions and can often ‘graduate’ clients into classes when they have healed or learned their modifications appropriately to safely participate in classes. Our instructors have training to safely work with a wide scope of clients with injuries or body issues. We often are in touch with Physical Therapist & can coordinate care when appropriate.
-
24-hour cancellation policy for all sessions and classes. Please use our online system to cancel. Should you become ill, we offer a 12-hour cancellation, please get in touch with the studio info@unionpilates.com for a cancellation of this nature.

Yes! We offer standing appointments, which are a recurring weekly spot with your instructor or in a class. To hold one, you’ll need to attend at least 3 out of 4 weeks each month and keep an active card on file, which is charged automatically when you need more credits. If a standing spot is cancelled more than twice in a month without a medical or vacation reason, we may offer it to the waitlist, but we’ll always let you know first. To request a spot, email us or ask your instructor, and we’ll confirm availability with you.
