Why Classical Pilates for Postpartum Recovery

The Pilates system of exercise works to foundationally build core and pelvic stability — essential first steps for any recovering postpartum person. Your instructor will customize each session to address the specific challenges you're facing, whether that's diastasis recti, recovery from a c-section, low or upper back instability, or shoulder and wrist pain from newborn care. Doing this foundational work during recovery not only supports healing but sets you up for better alignment and strength moving forward.

Private pilates sessions in Seattle allow for a customized pace and routine that adapts as your body heals, gradually increasing in challenge as you gain strength and confidence. When the time is right, we're able to incorporate you into our small group classes — giving you community and continued growth at a pace that honors your recovery.

When Can You Start

We always require you to receive a green light from your Doctor, OB and/or physical therapist before starting Pilates postpartum. We generally don’t see clients before they have their 6-week postpartum check-up. If you have questions about if you ready to start, please reach out to us.

Private Sessions vs. Group Classes

Private sessions are the right first step for postpartum clients. Your body has been through something significant, and a one-on-one setting gives your instructor the space to understand where you are, move at your pace, and build a practice that supports your recovery rather than rushing it.

As your strength and confidence grow, tower classes are a natural next step. Our small group classes of six students or fewer offer more variety and a sense of community while still maintaining the close attention that makes Union different.
